Green Line All in Two Diaper Review

Before I jump into this review, I want to briefly discuss HOW reviews here are composed. I have two main beliefs when it comes to diaper reviews: (1) For every diaper, there is a baby out there that it works well for. Therefore, reviews at Padded Tush Stats emphasize what kinds of babies certain diapers work well for, and perhaps struggles some people may have with a diaper. Since I include both the praises of the diaper and the issues people had, you can expect a pretty honest review. (2) People (including myself) can give up on a diaper because of a certain issue without even troubleshooting with the makers of the diaper. I have found that the makers provide a lot of great tips. That is why all reviews are shown to the owner with the option for them to provide comments; however, I DO NOT change any answers, I simply give them a chance to add a comment.

Padded Tush Stats recently released surveys for the Green Line Diaper.  After numerous calls for survey respondents on social networking sites, blogs, and cloth diapering community forums, we received 27 responses.

In the survey, questions are broken down by the kinds of diapering issues faced by the babies. Before we look at the results of the survey, I wanted to provide some basic information on the diaper. You can also see this in the video found below.

The Greenline Diaper is a one size all in two diaper. The soaker is made from bamboo microfiber and comes in two sizes: 24’’x15’’ and a doubler (or newborn insert) that is half that size. The cover has an outer layer of 100% cotton and an inner layer of breathable waterproof Ultrex. Size range goes from newborn to past three years old. The cover is waterproof and therefore reusable. Legs are adjusted by tightening cables and the diaper is closed using a strong velcro closure.

Funny Post Comment: I always put the diaper on according to how the videos at GreenLineDiaper.com show. However, I found out from the owner that she only folds down the back at the end of the video just to show you that you can do it…she always has hers folded down first!
Main Findings: What is particularly shocking about the responses was the high level of satisfaction from those with skinny babies. This could perhaps be due to the leg adjustments. Fitting can be difficult, but YouTube video tutorials, as well as helpful customer service, can help. Some respondents did express worry over adjusting cables too tightly.

Cons of Diaper (I asked Natasha, the owner of Green Line Diapers, to help people troubleshoot their issues. Her responses are in blue)
small waist*    (Green Line offers waist extenders to provide an additional 6 inches to the size of the waist when in use - from 22”-28”)
no snaps*
no stretch to work with baby movements.**
awkward fit   (If you are having troubles with the fit firstly make sure you are folding the soaker correctly and then secondly ensure the legs are completely UNcinched, this will give you the most rise to get the cover up and over baby all the way. Do up the waist and then tighten the drawstring legs. This should help.)
possibility of pinching legs if adjusted too tight** (no need to do the leg up very tight, as long as the diaper is flush against the thigh/leg then it is tight enough cord shouldn’t slip around once set to the size you need. Leg adjustments just need to be snug not tight.)
cover seems to wick moisture to outside sometimes*   (if cotton outers are a concern for you, we would be more than happy to sew you a cover with both inner and outer layers of waterproof - in solid colours)
no elastic
waist open at the back* (make sure waist is done up snuggly and you won’t have issues with gaping at the front or back)
legs hard to adjust     (it will be easier to adjust the legs once the waist is done up, undo legs all the way first.. then put diaper on starting with waist tabs then tighten the legs.)
insert difficult to stay put
does not fit larger sizes like claimed  (Fits to 22” waist - we also offer waist extenders that allow the diaper to fit a waist size from 22” - 28”)
microfiber in insert (New soakers are bamboo/cotton) Microfiber is used in a huge variety of products (including underwear) and we wondered why it was supposed to be bad for babies skin. We did a lot of research and could not find any studies or tests finding this to be the case - only a few comments on retailer sites saying, "Don't put microfiber against the skin". We decided to do our own testing (using small pieces and then full sized soakers) and found that there were no negative reactions. Our only conclusion is that  some have had a negative reaction to other brands of microfibre inserts and it has been widely generalized. Our blend of microfibre seems to be gentle against babies skin and that's our main focus when choosing the blend of materials we use.
cord hard to tuck away*  (visit our website for videos on how to tuck the cord:) )
piece of drawstring came off (choking hazard?)
leaks a little at thigh
diaper has torn apart  (We replace or refund covers)
Hard for others to use
No laundry tabs  (simply attach tabs to front velcro strip for laundering)
Pricey to buy a whole diaper
*And of course, we are always here to help. If you have any questions or run into any problems with the fit of your Green Line diaper please contact us. We will try our best to help you figure it out! Cheers, Natasha*

Comments from Survey Respondents
They sell stay dry fleece liners for nightime diapering and doublers/boosters if your baby needs extra absorbency or to be used on newborns!

I find that I can play around with how I fold the insert to give my daughter either a trimmer diaper or more absorbency. I found the videos that Green Line has posted really helpful to learning how to fold the inserts, too.

For my chunky wide baby there could be ~1" more material across the buttocks.  He's 6mos and 20lbs and could use just a wee bit more 'ease' in the diaper to allows for the poopies to be contained.

You can ask the company when you need help and they are quick to respond and help you out.

I was able to fold the soaker using an angel prefold style and snappi it.  That easily kept the EBF poop on the soaker and off the cover.

Playing around with the bamboo liner helps the fit. We found it needed to be positioned a little differently for the diaper to fit him more snuggly. This seems to come with some practice of putting these diapers on too.

I find that with boys you need a bit more absorbency in the front, so I double fold the top part of the soaker. I also washed my soakers about 5 times in the beginning for maximum absorbency...this is not specific to green line diapers - I have been told by a couple other Moms that CD with other brands that soakers are not as absorbent when brand new.

I also keep a bar of laundry soap (Unscented Rocky Mountain Soap Company) by the sink and give my covers a quick hand wash and hang to dry. I rinse out my soakers after every use, and keep them in a laundry pail with a bit of baking soda until wash time. This way I don't have to necessarily do laundry every day, and since I have 36 soakers, I can cycle through my 9 soakers a couple times before having to wash. When I do launder the covers and soakers, I find that hanging the covers to dry makes them less wrinkled and seems to be easier on the velcro.
I just love this diaper and tell everyone about them!

awesome customer service :)

I did as  they recommended it works awesome

prefer it best when over a trifolded soaker or prefold.

i use a fleece liner for the stay-dry feeling because my daughter has sensitive skin - she has had less reaction from these diapers than from disposables.

I leave the legs cinched in between uses- makes diapering faster
