Little Boppers Fitted Diaper - My Review

I think one of the true tests on whether or not I truly like a diaper is whether or not I turn around and, after having received a free one form the company, proceed to buy MORE of them.

This was my experience with the Little Boppers Fitted Diaper.

I was provided a Fitted Diaper for my newborn, as well as some All in Two diapers (review on those coming soon), by Little Boppers. I immediately fell in love with the diaper and hunted down a few more of them from Diaper Swappers.

I gotta say, I am writing this post with a heavy heart because this week my little guy has officially outgrown his Little Boppers. I just packed away a few of them. But I am still in DENIAL. I kept my favorite one out to try and see if it would work one more time. I just can’t let it go.

So in this review I want to help show you the ins and outs of this diaper and show you how I would respond to a Padded Tush Stats Survey on this diaper based on how it worked on my baby (remember that my personal belief is that different diapers work differently on different babies….say that ten times fast, so I can’t wait to see the survey results on this diaper so we can see how it performs for different kinds of babies).

Little Bopper Fitted Diaper–My Review

So let’s go ahead and look at the general makeup of this diaper:

The outside of the diaper has some form of smooth printed fabric (printed interlock, ribknit, jersey, or solid velours, as well as a handful of printed velours.). Mine was made of velour on the outside and it was AMAZING. Loved it. My others have interlock on the outside. I definitely prefer the softness of the velour.

There is a large collection of choices in stock (over 350) and they can be seen here.

The inside of the diaper is lined with velour. I absolutely loved how soft it was against little guy’s skin. It didn’t get stiff or anything.

The soaker is a snap in insert that has six layers.

The diaper has snap two snap closures on each side to make for a snug fit.

What are the PROS of this diaper? The diaper is very absorbent. I used this as a night time diaper and it worked great. The diaper is soft against the baby’s skin. I also like the ability to snap down the diaper for the umbilical cord. The fit was perfect, it was totally snug against the little guy.
What are the CONS of this diaper? The insert takes a while to dry, particularly where all of the fabric is gathered at the snap. Unsnapping the soaker certainly helps, but it usually needed a little extra time. My Mom had a difficult time putting on because the snaps confused her. The diaper is pretty bulky between the legs with all of the layers of the soaker. I
It would be neat if the diaper is sold at one location (but again, that doesn’t really affect the functionality of the diaper, just the accessibility and I would rather have the awesome customer service of a WAHM company than one place they are always sold any day). Snaps came off of two of my diapers, however, I sent them to the company and they were fixed within a week.
At times it was tough for me to snap up the diaper because of the many layers of the soaker—they would sometimes peek up out of the top of the diaper.

Are there any other comments or tips you would like to add about this diaper? (for example, a particular stuffing method you found helpful, or anything else!)

The key thing is to make sure you take out the soaker before drying. The best way I did this was as I was wiping the baby, I would then use that same wipe to take off the soaker and put both the soaker and diaper in the wet bag.

Have you tried out this diaper?

If so, then please fill out the survey for this over here. Aside from personal reviews that I do (such as this one), I also do reviews based on survey responses from people who have used the diapers on their babies. Therefore, by filling out surveys you help contribute to more comprehensive reviews that are sorted by baby characteristics (so thanks in advance!).

Talking to your loved one about cloth diapering: A Cheezy Animated Video

I don't know about you guys, but it was tough for me to convince my husband that cloth diapering would be a good choice for us. I created an overdramatization of our discussion (husband wasn't British, nor was he as grumpy!...OK, maybe he was). I hope that by showing this discussion it might help some of you out. Please pass this on and share it with people. Maybe it could help someone out! (below you can find a list of websites that could be helpful for someone).

Also, in the video I talk about trial programs for diapers. Here is a pretty good one:

Here are some more resources for getting advice on what cloth diapers to buy (aside from Padded Tush Stats):
www.dirtydiaperlaundry.com
www.allaboutclothdiapers.com

And remember that I would be happy to advise you on purchases that might be best for your little one.

So here's my question for many of you...Was it tough for you to convince your loved one to cloth diaper your baby? If so, what were some things you discussed? What finally did it? (if you are cloth diapering now)

Chelory All in Two Diaper Survey

Chelory Ultimate Fitted Diaper Survey

One Size Diaper Project–Week 18–13 pounds 4 ounces

Hi all! I hope you are doing well. This week is the most recent One Size Diaper Project post. I am starting to realize that I can only do about half a stash each batch because this man is flying through diapers!!!! Tough thing is all of my One Size Diapers are my go-to out and about diapers.

Want to know why?

This is my hidden secret about cloth diapering two. These are THE BEST diapers for out and about. I have all diapers snapped down to little guy’s setting so that when I have to put it on the older kid I just unsnap and that’s it! My favorite diaper for this little tip: The Bumgenius Elemental because you don’t have to readjust a pocket diaper or anything.

Three questions this time around…take your pick on what you want to respond to!

For those of you who cloth diaper two, what do you pack in diaper bags?

And, the usual question, which diaper fits the best this week? You guys normally pick a GroVia or Softbums. Thoughts this week? We’ll see GroVia and Softbums next One Size Post, I promise.

Is it gross to reuse a cover on your other baby?

If you are a blogger, you can link your post in the comments here to point us to your pictures of your kid in a bunch of One Size Diapers. You don’t need to commit to doing this every week. This project is just to give people a sense of how babies grow into One Size Diapers.

This week I am doing little mini-comments on these. Please don’t consider this a review, since I always send my issues to the diaper makers before releasing an official review. I will be asking these questions to them as well, I just wanted to see if any of you had any issues like the ones I have had.

001007

Wahmies (I am loving the softness of the inside of this diaper. Plus it is cute)008009

Oh Katy. Just did a review of this. This week I encountered a new problem. Since little guy is no longer using the newborn insert and is using the One Size insert snapped down on the smallest setting, it is bunched enough to keep unsnapping the snap down rise. Anyone else have this trouble?010012

Best Bottoms AI2: I like this diaper A LOT. Problem is I have one insert for little one and one insert for the other one. Question: think it’s gross to use an AI2 for two different kids even if I wipe it down between uses? I haven’t done that yet, not sure that sounds to hygienic.

013014

Bumgenius Flip. I like how compact the insert folds into the diaper. I also like that I can use prefolds in this as well. I think this would be my dream diaper if they made it to where you could snap in the insert to it is more likely to stay in place.

015016

Go Green Pocket Diaper. I really like the fit of this one. But it isn’t the cutest of my stash (say the in laws)

018019

Bumgenius 4.0 Pocket Diaper. I think this one looks a little bulky. Thoughts?

020021

Rocky Mountain One Size Pocket Diaper. This keeps leaking, no matter how I set it. Thoughts on what to do?022023

Oh my gosh I LOVE how this diaper looks and feels. This and the Wahmies are the ones I take out and about the most just because I like people to see how Cloth Diapers rock. I do wish the inside looked a little less confusing (there are about three inserts that snap into each other)

024025

Greenline Diaper. This, the GroVia AIO, and the Softbums are the diapers in my stash that truly size down well. I just have some trouble putting this one on. Any tips?

027028

Sunbaby Pocket Diaper. Pretty good diaper. My main concern is that I always get the insert stuck on a part of the fabric (the part the snaps are snapped on) when stuffing. Anyone have this trouble?

Oh Katy Pocket Diaper Review

Before I jump into this review, I want to briefly discuss HOW reviews here are composed. I have two main beliefs when it comes to diaper reviews: (1) For every diaper, there is a baby out there that it works well for. Therefore, reviews at Padded Tush Stats emphasize what kinds of babies certain diapers work well for, and perhaps struggles some people may have with a diaper. Since I include both the praises of the diaper and the issues people had, you can expect a pretty honest review. (2) People (including myself) can give up on a diaper because of a certain issue without even troubleshooting with the makers of the diaper. I have found that the makers provide a lot of great tips. That is why all reviews are shown to the owner with the option for them to provide comments; however, I DO NOT change any answers, I simply give them a chance to add a comment.
Padded Tush Stats recently released surveys for the Oh Katy Pocket Diaper. After numerous calls for survey respondents on social networking sites, blogs, and cloth diapering community forums, we received 31 responses.
In the survey, questions are broken down by the kinds of diapering issues faced by the babies. Before we look at the results of the survey, I wanted to provide some basic information on the diaper. You can also see this in the video found below.

*  The diaper has a patented front opening for the diaper that has a flap covering over it to prevent the insert from poking out (see the video to see how this goes).
By having the opening in the front, you don’t have to deal with pulling an insert out of a poopy back of a diaper.
* It also contains some handy hip snaps to make for a snug fit on a newborn that helps prevent wing droop.
* They recently revised their Katydid diaper to now have softer leg gussets for a fit free of red marks.
* The part of the diaper touching the skin is made of stay dry microfleese.
* The outside of the diaper is made of a waterproof TPU.
* The diaper fits babies from newborn stage to potty trained.
* The diaper has snap closures. These normally last longer than hook and loop closures and are difficult for a baby to take off.
* The diaper has two microfiber inserts: one is a newborn insert (that you could also use as a doubler), and a one size insert with three size settings.
* The diaper also has a “wrap n’ snap” feature where you can bundle a soiled diaper up while you are out and about (see video to get what I mean)

Let’s look into the stats on this diaper.

Comments from Survey Respondents
I LOVE the front-stuff. When I remove inserts, I would rather have my hand touch pee than risk    touching poop!
The ONLY negative remarks I've heard from people I've recommended these to, are they they repel after  a while. That is nothing to do with the diaper really, it's mostly a washing kink that needs to be worked out. I have NEVER had a leak or an issue with the Oh Katy. I also use the Katydid's, their former diaper, and the only things   that are tough with that are the legs are a bit tighter. Since I have a small baby,   I've never had any issues with those either.
I love, love, love this diaper!  My girl is tall and thin and it works awesome for skinny babies.  Some other brands seem to run to big and I can't get a good fit.  Love that these aren't to wide between the legs.  I wish I had started CDing earlier because I  would have loved to try these on a smaller baby to see how the hip snap works.  I  also love the fact they fold up in case you forget a wet bag.  Now how many diapers have you seen that can do that.  The only negative I see is the hip snap for bigger  kids because it could leave a mark.  I need to see if they sell a cover for it.  Other  than that I really love these diapers!!!!!!!!!!  PS I haven't tried them for night time     because I use a fitted with wool but I would not be afraid to use them at night.
I love this diaper! I just wish I had more of them. They are husbandproof.
Initially when my baby was in his chunky stage I did get red marks on the legs. Over time he has slimmed down and the elastic has gotten gentler with washing.  We no  longer get any marks from this diaper.  It is one that gets better and softer with age!

Tara's Tangent: You Arent’ a Bad Mom if You Don’t Breastfeed

[I want to preface this post by saying that I mean no harm or judgment here. I am stumbling with words to write this because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings because the last thing a Mama needs is to feel bad about her parenting. This is just a reflection of my experience based on my own beliefs.]

I know, I know. I am breaking the golden rule of blogging and putting an “off topic post” on here. But I have been mulling over in my head some thoughts on my struggles with breastfeeding and figured I would post this in case it could in any way help someone else. I hope this might help people who may feel out of place because of low supply issues.
Click the image to open in full size.
I struggled with low milk supply with both of my children and the entire experience initially left me feeling like less of a woman. That is what we were built to do, right? And I hear people talk about the benefits of breastmilk and avoiding feeding their kids that “icky formula” and I instantly felt a surge of guilt.

Let me start with baby #1.
She was in the NICU for a short while and in that time I got bruised up due to poor education on breastfeeding and a lack of support from my recovery nurses. I couldn’t breastfeed, so I pumped. I blamed that on my low supply. Although maple syrup  emanated from my body for months (thanks to fenugreek), I never pumped more than 4 ounces a day. Well after drinking one quart of mothers milk a day, pumping 12+ times a day, power pumping, supplemental nursing systems, shields, shells, breast compressions, pumping in between feedings (and even waking up every 2-3 hours while dear daughter is awesome and sleeping 8+ hours a night!), pumping after feedings, reglan, increased protein consumption, fenugreek, homemade hands-free pumping bras (a lacy orange one, might I add!), exclusively pumping, sage avoidance, parsley avoidance, dairy avoidance, feeding tracking, chocolate avoidance, spicy food avoidance, ice cream avoidance, boppys, lactation consultant after lactation consultant, asymmetrical latching, lanisoh, bedside pumping, reclined feeding, nursing vacation, switch nursing, formula avoidance (that didn't last long!), extra sleep, increased calorie intake, La Leche calls, cleft palate bottles, Dr. Brown bottles, zero flow bottles, vent air bottles, blessed thistle, attachment parenting, and oatmeal, it was safe to say my battle with breastfeeding was over.

It was solidified by the fact that little one grabbed the SNS system while I was feeding her and managed to throw it on my brand new laptop and ruin it.

I gave up at 3 months and spent the next 12 months kicking myself for this decision. I felt like a terrible mother. When I went to feed her in public nursing rooms, I felt alienated and out of place, even though I needed a calm place to feed my baby her bottle.

Then Baby #2 came
I wanted to think it would all be different, but I knew in my heart it wouldn’t. I told doctors, nurses, and lactation consultants about my history of low milk supply and they immediately “hushed” me, as if dredging up the past was taboo. I wanted to use this fresh start as a chance to troubleshoot, but no one would listen. I endured terrible pain for 6 weeks. All the sources out there say if you have pain, you are doing something wrong. But guess what? I wasn’t. I went to multiple LCs who all confirmed a good latch. I went to an ear, nose, and throat specialist to confirm baby wasn’t tongue tied. Finally some good friends told me to endure the toe-curling latching pain for a few weeks and it would go away. And it did. But sadly the supply didn't come in fully. I was told that there is no such thing as running out of milk, you ALWAYS make milk, and yet I saw the opposite. So I felt wrong. I was certainly making more than with my first, but little man was dropping in weight to drastically low levels and nothing I did helped. Finally the LC concluded that I may have hypoplastic breasts because there is a large space between my breasts, which meant less breast tissue and therefore a low milk supply. I had to supplement with at least 12 ounces a day. You would have thought that I would have been upset, but I left the office feeling relieved.

I did everything I could do.

And that leads me to my current reflection on supplementing my child. I want to feel guilty. I want to feel awful. But I don’t at all. Instead, I feel like I have an even greater sense of pride because I know I did everything I could to breastfeed my baby, which I felt was important. It is put very well in “Making More Milk”: “It is about the commitment you made to give your baby the best start in life and the tremendous effort you put into pursuing that goal.”

I feel a sense of pride that I am committed to feed my baby in the way that works best for him, no matter what. I currently use a LactAid SNS system and I love it (no ruined laptop yet this time around).

I think there are a lot of opportunities for guilt out there. People constantly told me that I was doing something “wrong” to have a low milk supply (I swear if one more person says I need to drink more water I will go nuts!).

Bottom line: in my opinion, it is always helpful to do what you can, but what makes you a good mom is not whether or not you breastfeed. Doing everything you can to do what is best for your baby is what makes you a good mom.

I think this is my pumping mantra:
"We aren’t measured by the ounces in bottles but rather by the grit and determination behind those ounces” - "Making More Milk" by Diana West

GroVia Newborn AIO Review

Owls? Are you kidding me? I can’t get enough! It must be a growing trend in diaper prints because I have enough Owl diapers to fill one bin and I LOVE IT!  But let’s talk about what’s really hot in diapers: The GroVia Newborn All in One Diaper.

181984_1743093011907_1076160230_1892071_8327183_n

I bought this diaper from Sew Crafty Baby when I first had my son. My little guy was stuck in the 7 pound range for quite a while and is now almost 4 months and just shy of 13 pounds. The GroVia newborn diaper has worked very well for him.  This diaper is normally saved for outings because, just like my OWL Rainshine Designs Newborn All-In-One, I love to show it off.

It worked very well with his skinny thighs and I loved that it went on with one snap on each side so that my drowsy self could get it on.

Video Review

Let’s go ahead and go into the details on this diaper:

Made of certified 80% Organic Cotton

The outside is made of waterproof TPU

On a Scale of 1 to 5, please indicate whether or not you would recommend this diaper. 5
What are the PROS of this diaper? Absorbent, trim, fits for a long time, cute prints, I like the “taco shell” seam down the middle that traps in poop.
What are the CONS of this diaper? long drying time

Are there any other comments or tips you would like to add about this diaper? (for example, a particular stuffing method you found helpful, or anything else!)

I have had difficulty with the drying time and contacted the company. They are GREAT with helping people out in a timely manner. They said to snap the diaper closed to where the INSIDE is facing out, rather than the outside and dry it like that. It still didn’t dry completely, but it did get it more dry. I then put it on the dresser and it is dry by morning.

Have you tried out this diaper?

If so, then please fill out the survey for this here. If you have tried out ANY cloth diapers, I hope you can take the opportunity to fill some surveys out over here. Aside from personal reviews that I do (such as this one), I also do reviews based on survey responses from people who have used the diapers on their babies. Therefore, by filling out surveys you help contribute to more comprehensive reviews that are sorted by baby characteristics (so thanks in advance!).

One Size Diaper Project–16 Weeks–12 pounds, 15 oz

When I am looking into buying a one-size diaper, I am always wondering how the baby looks as he/she is growing  in the diaper. For example, how does it work during the skinny-legged days? What about during a chunky phase? What about going into toddlerhood? Because of this, I decided to start up a One Size Diaper Project. For this project, I will be posting pictures of my baby in one size diapers. I hope to update it bi-weekly so you can see how he is growing into different one size diapers.
If you are a blogger, you can include your link below in the comments and direct people to your blog to check it out.

Wow time is flying SO quickly! I love seeing the chunks grow on my formerly skinny-legged boy. Right now I am a HUGE fan of the diapers that have a snap down rise because they are so easy to adjust between my two kids. Before I would pack about a dozen diapers per kid, with lots for backup. I am also finding that it is much easier for people who watch my kids to just say, “Unsnap it for “Sprout”, keep it snapped for “Stalk.” Therefore, the BG Elemental is working great for daycare and absorbency. I love the fit of the GroVia AI2 and Softbums Echo right now.

What do you think looks like the best fit? What is your experience with any of these?
